Summer hiking in Phoenix requires, at least for me, hitting the trail before sunrise to avoid the worst of the heat. There wasn't a lot of foreground interest so I used the dip in the ridge line and the the trail leading up the hillside to emphasize the location of the rising sun and the source of the crepuscular light rays. Story: This was an interesting photo shoot. There are few clouds to the West, but a large set of clouds were coming over the McDowell Mountain Range. Normally I shoot out in the desert, but I felt I couldn't get the angles that I needed for the shot. So, I drove into the community, frantically looking for a place to shoot.
